Project Description
The Duncan-Iles Foundation, Inc. awarded a financial grant to assist a Hendersonville family with the surgical medical expenses for their one year old baby born with a birth defect diagnosed with a medical condition known as craniouynostosis. The surgical procedure was performed at Levine Children’s Hospital at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC to prevent head deformity and brain damage. Results of the surgery have been reported to be successful and will required continued follow-up observation and care at the Levine Children’s Hospital.
Craniosynostosis (kray-nee-o-sin-os-TOE-sis) is a birth defect in which one or more of the joints between the bones of the baby’s skull close prematurely, before the baby’s brain is fully formed.
